Chinese company takes up our old web address

For many years the Deerstalkers of Welshpool used the web address http://www.sherlockholmeswelshpool.com.

At the start of 2019 we decided to shorten it to http://www.holmeswelshpool.com and were surprised to see our old URL being used by a Chinese company which has no connection with Welshpool or Sherlock Holmes.

Something that our late founder, Roy Upton-Holder, would have been amused by and proof that the organisation he started has reached far and wide!

David Stuart Davies & Roger Llewellyn

The Deerstalkers of Welshpool regret to announce the death of former president Roger Llewellyn on the 18th April 2018.

Although not unexpected it is a sad moment for those of us who knew Roger.

I well remember meeting him, along with some other Deerstalker members, after a performance at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury.

New President of the Deerstalkers

President of the Deerstalkers of Welshpool, Roger Llewellyn, has sadly been forced to relinquish that role for health reasons. Roger has played the role of Sherlock Holmes, on stage, many times.

Some time ago a group of us had the privilege of meeting Roger after his appearance at Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury.

Our new President is the author, playwright, and acknowledged expert on Sherlock Holmes, David Stuart Davies. David is a very appropriate President for the only Sherlock Holmes society in Wales as he had a professional rugby playing father who hailed from Amanford in South Wales.

It is perhaps an interesting coincidence that David wrote two Sherlock Holmes plays for Roger Llewellyn. Sherlock Holmes: The Last Act and Sherlock Holmes: The Death and Life.

We wish Roger well and would be happy to hear from him if he feels able; and are delighted that David has agreed to be our new President.
