What We Do

The Society (which was formed in 2001 by Roy Upton-Holder) meets at irregular intervals at a time suitable to most members, the date and venue being decided in advance.

After the minutes of the previous meeting have been read and signed, and other Society business has been attended to, the format will include a selection of the following:-

  • The showing of a Sherlock Holmes video or the playing of an audio cassette.
  • A quiz based on a case, chosen at the previous meeting, from the Canon with each member providing three questions.  In fact, each member should have at least six questions prepared as some they have chosen might have been asked by other members.  The person with the highest wins a small Holmesian prize.
  • Discussing the latest Holmesian news – which includes reviews of the latest books, audio cassettes and DVDs.
  • Investigating Holmesian games and quizzes.
  • A learned discussion on some aspect of the Canon.
